Saint Julien aux Bois is een klein dorp met zo'n 450 inwoners. Het heeft o.a. een hotel en restaurant en een tennisbaan waarvan gebruik gemaakt kan worden. Op respectievelijk 5 en 7 km afstand liggen de wat grotere dorpen Saint Privat en Pleaux. Hier vindt u meerdere restaurants, terrasjes, banken, geldautomaat, postkantoor, supermarkten, bakker, slager etc. Brive (of vol uit: Brive la Gaillarde) op 60 km afstand is de grote plaats in de buurt met o.a. vliegveld en (TGV) treinstation. Deze plaats is zeker een bezoekje waard. Halverwege komt u ook nog door de plaats Argentat waar veel te beleven is. Argentat trekt ieder jaar vele toeristen.
Direct om het Chateau is het werkelijk waar een prachtige omgeving voor de mooiste wandelingen. Mooie bospaden wisselen elkaar af met schitterende vergezichten over dalen en weilandjes. Licht heuvelachtig en veel dieren te spotten. Een Eldorado voor zowel de actieve- als gelegenheids wandelaar.
